In 1964, physicist Peter Higgs theorized that an invisible field of bosons (particles that can occupy the same space) existed in a form that allowed it to make planets and people. The problem is, it's only showed its existence once... moments after the Big Bang!
This brings us to today - introducing the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) - an $8 billion partical accelerator. It's purpose: to smash subatomic particles together at speeds of 99.9999991% of the speed of light. While scientists hope to make numerous discoveries from it, one main goal is to find the Higgs boson and simulate the Big Bang!
For creationists, this would be the equivalent of building an $8 billion megaphone and voice modulator to simulate God's command in Genesis 1:3, "Let there be light!" in hopes of actually making it happen.
Higgs said in a recent interview that if his boson is not found he will no longer understand what he thinks he understands. I wonder, if at that time, he'll begin to understand what we all understand - that God created life!

that's really interesing how much $$ can be spent to find out one question... hmmm...
ask, seek, knock... that's a simpler version of the question~
:-) bless you guys!!
I agree with Lisi...the amount of $ is a bit ridiculous.
However, it makes me think...in our day-to-day, how many "inventions" or "theories" do we come up with to try and explain things or handle things when all God is saying is "Look at Me!"??
Thanks for the post, R!

While there is an aspect of building another tower of Babel, the intricacies of how the universe was CREATED that this instrument unveils is undeniable as is the fact that IF something is created, there has to be a Creator.
Awaiting Lee Stroble's take.
PS For the fans of "Dad jokes" they have to be looking for a boson... not on a wild quantum duck hunt, recognizable by the call of the quantum duck "quark, quark, quark"
I don't understand the rationale behind this post. This atom smasher is no different that all the other ones other than the fact that it is bigger than the rest. It's trying to get evidence for various particle theories and begin to delve into the world of string theory to see if there is, in actuality, anything to it. The scientists there are worshiping God with their interest in the very fundamentals of his creation; to learn more and more about this awesome thing that he has made. For one who knows little about the science behind this it seems rather insulting to imply that it is somehow fighting against God's word. Pure science has its place.
